Melissa Sue Platt
Melissa’s injuries included bruises on her back, stomach, legs, arms, and behind her ear. Her left eye was blackened. Her jaw was broken on both the left and right sides of her face. She had a large mark on her neck that appeared to be a strangulation injury. Worse, she was suffering a brain bleed and a blood clot on the right side of her brain. Doctors immediately performed a craniotomy to try to relieve the pressure on her brain, inserting a tube into the right side of her head.
Marian, who had received a phone call from Melissa's boyfriend on October 3rd, to inform her that Melissa had fallen in the bathroom but was okay, realized that Melissa had laid in that bed in her home slowly dying for six long days. Her boyfriend did not seek medical attention for her. What he is believed to have done instead is wrap her in the blanket on the bed, feed her liquor through a straw, and leave her there alone while he went to and from work. Doctors informed the family that it was impossible that she could have suffered her injuries from the fall her boyfriend had described.
